We are a young but growing team, situated in Baar, only 5 mins drive from Zug. The team is half Swiss who are learning the game, and half ex-pats who have played in other countries; South Africa, UK, USA, Australia and Holland. We play in the Swiss Rugby Federation which offers us a full season of games. Plus we also cater for all ages.

Because of this mix, the skills are passed on to those who are learning from those who have played in high levels elswhere. The coach, for example, is an ex 1st Division Australian, and the backs-coach is a Scot with 30 years playing experience. As a consequence, even though made up of beginners, everyone is learning very quickly.

What is also very important is that everyone has fun and enjoys the sport. Training does include fitness as well as technique. And, although we have not yet had great succes on the field, this will change in time.

We also make everyone welcome. For those who are not sure about the sport due to its physical nature, we also play “touch rugby” where is it just about impossible to get hurt. So if you enjoy running and throwing a ball around, rugby is still for you.

Die Baar Panthers sind ein registrierter Rugby-Klub in der Gemeinde Baar und wurden am 1.11.06 gegründet. Der Klub hat mehr als 25 aktive Mitglieder und wächst weiterhin stark. Vor drei Jahren gab es nur 3 Mitglieder, mittlerweile gibt es fast jede Woche neue Interessenten.

Das Interessante – sowohl für die Gemeinde Baar als auch für die Schweiz generell – ist die Tatsache, dass die Hälfte der Mannschaft lokale Schweizer sind, welche bis vor wenigen Monaten nichts von Rugby wussten. Aber bereits heute ist das Team nach viel Training und Fleiss eine starke Rugby-Mannschaft geworden.

Die jetzige Saison wird für die Baar Panthers die erste vollständige Saison mit 12 Meisterschaftsspielen sein. Wir spielen in der 1. Liga Ost, in welcher folgende Teams spielen: Lugano II, Ticino, Bern II, Winterthur, Zurich Grasshoppers III, Eschen-Mauren Liechtenstein, und die Baar Panthers. Gegen jedes Team spielen wir jeweils zweimal.
